Going Abroad: Chao Shao-an’s Artistic Journey in the 1950s - 1960s
Chao Shao-an, a leading figure in the second generation of the Lingnan School of Painting, travelled extensively between 1950 and 1954, visiting Japan, Southeast Asia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, France and Italy. From 1960 to 1961, he journeyed to the United States, where he held exhibitions, delivered lectures and conducted public demonstrations of his art. Through his dedicated efforts, the Lingnan School of Painting became one of the most widely disseminated Chinese painting schools abroad in the 20th century. This talk will introduce Chao Shao-an’s overseas experiences and their impact on his artistic development.
Speaker: Dr Raymond Tang (Deputy Director of the CUHK Art Museum)
